Featured Artist.....31/12/2016......'Glen Foster Group'

An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, Glen Foster lives on Vancouver Island BC and has been performing professionally for more than 30 years. Glen is equally comfortable on stage with just his guitar, dobro and harmonica as he is playing electric lead guitar in an energetic rock and roll band.

Glen Foster Group was formed in 2009 and also includes drummer Glenn Olsen and bassist Pat Shonwise from Nanaimo, BC. Their original songs range from intricate finger-picking ballads and country-flavored pop to highly creative electric rock.

Glen was lead guitarist for several years with WEA’s Ray Materick of “Linda Put The Coffee On” fame. He has toured Canada extensively from coast to coast, performed at the Richmond Ozone for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and plays regularly at music festivals, pubs and roadhouses in British Columbia.

The Spirit of Christmas and The Twelve Guitars of Christmas, a 45 rpm single on Red Vinyl was initially released in 1986. The 25 year anniversary re-release, Nov 2011 features digitally re-mastered mixes.

‘Pixelated Man’ a 4 song EP was released Nov 1, 2010 and includes 3 original songs plus a cover of the 1964 hit single Big Man In Town by The Four Seasons.

‘Trusted Tried & True’ the third album of original material focused on an acoustic west coast sound with current trio GLEN FOSTER GROUP. The single “Tenderest Bartenderess In The West” was released nationally to radio stations in February 2010. Special guests included celebrated guitarist David Gogo, blues harmonica player Gerry Barnum, and vocalists The Turtle Doves. A video production of the song “Destination Desolation Sound” is currently being used on the BC Tourism website for the Powell River area.

A compilation CD of two previous albums, entitled ‘Walk Into The Mirror/The Falcon’ was released in 2008. It contains the previously released singles ‘1982’, ‘Always Rock And Roll’, and ‘Los Angeles’ the song which won a talent contest in 1980 on CKOC Radio, Hamilton ON.

Although continuously giving live performances Glen has also studied jazz, Chet Atkins style guitar, Hawaiian and classical guitar having been awarded two silver medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music. A qualified music teacher himself, Glen also produces recordings for other artists and operates his own ‘Indie’ record label and publishing company.

Glen Foster / Press

“The Reckoning is the long awaited album by Canadian singer-songwriter Glen Foster. The album starts with a four part suite containing 3 instrumental tracks, overlapping each other seamlessly. Musical overtures and melodies are the norm. The title track is the closing part of the suite, the only song supported by tasteful lead vocals. Glen Foster entices us with his dexterity and nimble fingers on his 6-string guitar. The release contains some controversial tracks. In 'War of Worlds' you'll find the original voices of John F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev mixed in. And Foster's voice fits in very well. But the best track Foster kept until the end. The optimistic 'Someday (It'll All Work Out)' with backing vocals, organ, piano and fluid electric guitar is unquestionably the absolute high note. The CD ends just as hauntingly as it started. The 12 string Rickenbacker guitar in 'The Reckoning' part V Reprise enchants us again in a sustained musical highlight.”

Alfons Maes - Keys and Chords

“The RECKONING includes several controversial songs including ‘War of Words’ based on the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962) which features the actual voices of John F Kennedy and Nikita Kruschev. ‘This That These & Those’ has become a hot YouTube video and features several recognizable Nanaimo landmarks including Millstone Winery where the band was videoed playing live. Foster was also featured on Shaw Cable TV’s ‘The Show’ hosted by Kait Burgen in January 2012 performing ‘Someday (It’ll All Work Out)’ which can also be seen on a YouTube video. Foster who is becoming known as the ‘Pixelated Man’ after a song of the same title, is depicted disintegrating into pixels blown across the CD cover, a design created by Gerry Patenaude at Nanaimo’s ‘Array Creative’ (Fitzwilliam Street, Nanaimo). The Group has a CD release celebration planned for Saturday Sept 15, 2012, 8:30pm at The Courts Pub, 25 Front St, Nanaimo.”
