Featured Artist.....06/October/2017......

Michael Owens

Michael's early "live performance" experience includes performing in the very active Calgary and area music scene as a guest singer with many different cover bands that were playing the bar circuit.

This experience gave him the confidence to move into the very strong rock market of Toronto where he joined an all-original heavy metal band that performed at clubs such as Rock'n'Roll Heaven, Club Entex, and the El Mocombo. The band was also a fixture at Toronto's landmark venue "The Gasworks".

Over time the group went through member changes which eventually led Michael to return to the familiar music scene in Calgary. Fresh from his achievements in Toronto, he felt even more confident, and joined another all-original band metal named "Valhalla", which quickly became the one of the top drawing bands in the Calgary market.

The next step for Michael was to finally achieve his dream of becoming a solo recording artist, and to remove the shackles associated with being labelled as a strictly a heavy metal artist. With this in mind, he set out to write and record more contemporary music.

He has now released three songs to Canadian commercial radio, and with each release his music is becoming more and more accepted.

Peace of Mind 100% Cancon

"Peace Of Mind" was written to express Michael's concern for the future of humanity, and has been a labor of love for over a year. He feels that all of us ultimately want peace of mind for our offspring's future, and that we hope they will inherit a peaceful world. Since he feels this is a very important message, he tried his best to ensure the song is appropriate for airplay across a wide musical spectrum. Therefore, "Peace Of Mind" includes performances by some of the world's top session players.

The song includes piano/keyboard performances by Keith Floen, who was a nominee for CCMA 2012 keyboard player of the year, and has worked with several country artists such as Shania Twain, Charlie Major, Jim Cuddy, Paul Brandt, Farmer's Daughter, Tom Jackson, and many more. The song also includes a drum performance by his former "roomie and bandmate Shane Gaalaas, who has worked with some of the world's top heavy metal artists such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, Uli Roth (from The Scorpions), Vinnie Moore, Billy Sheehan,  Joe Satriani, Glenn Hughes (from Deep Purple and Black Sabbath), and many more.

Since undertaking a career as a solo artist less than two years ago with the mentorship of CARAS Music Hall of Fame inductee, and JUNO Award winning producer Mel Shaw, Michael has released 3 songs. With each release, his music is gaining more and more acceptance by Canadian commercial radio, and he is very hopeful "Peace Of Mind" is the song that propels him to the next level.
